Description
Winner of the Cologne International film festival gold for best single drama and the Prix Italia in Bologna. Writer Kieran Prendiville (one of Esther Ranzen's former side-kicks on the BBC TV show "That's Life") won a BAFTA for Best Single TV Drama and Steven Macintosh was nominated for Best Actor.
So why is this film not available? Why has it never been repeated on TV? That's because, while originally presented as a fictional play, it later emerged that the story is based on real people and real events. "Glenavon" was actually the now notorious Bryn Estyn home in Wales, which became the centre of a large-scale child abuse investigation, and the accuracy of some of the accounts of abuse depicted in this powerful and disturbing drama have been questioned. Legal matters aside, it remains a great piece of film production. Do not watch this film if you are likely to be upset by it. It's strong stuff. Sharing Widget |
