After a chain of disturbing events, it is dramatically revealed that Luka is a ghost. He was killed along with Eva, who had made enemies when she uncovered a people-trafficking racket at the marina building site. Bel finds that her feelings for Luka are reciprocated, although they both know their love is doomed. Together they find out the full truth about Eva's death, and Luka's spirit can be released. He rejoins his mother in a moving scene at the fairground in which Bel realises painfully that she has to let him go.
