DescriptionIn 1988, Kasem left AT40 over contract concerns with ABC. Casey's final AT40 of the first Casey era show aired on August 6, 1988. At no point during that final show did Kasem ever let on that any changes were afoot, and simply omitted the phrase "join me next week" while closing the show. In 1997, Casey Kasem acquired the rights to the American Top 40 name. On March 28, 1998 the second Casey era of American Top 40 began. Kasem's last show as host of AT40 aired on the weekend of January 3/4, 2004. His final #1 was Outkast's "Hey Ya!". Casey plays a medley of different artists' "The First Cut Is The Deepest" starting with the 1969 original by Cat Stevens, then Keith Hamphsire, Rod Stewart, and this week's version at number 31 by Sheryl Crow. In this broadcast: Casey tells how Flagstaff, Arizona got its name before he introduces Flagstaff native Michelle Branch, at number 19 with her song, "Breathe." So far in the rock era, there have been twelve number one songs with the word "baby" in the title. Casey lists some of them, and then plays the song that grows that list to 13, "Baby Boy" by Beyonce (and featuring Sean Paul, at number 7). "Suga Suga" by Baby Bash is at number 3. Casey remembers a different "Sugar, Sugar" by Wilson Picket that was on the chart for Casey's very first AT40 show. 40: Wat Da Hook Gon Be – Murphy Lee featuring Jermaine Dupri 39: Who Will I Run To? – Kiley Dean 38: Take Me Away – Fefe Dobson 37: My Immortal – Evanescence 36: Me Against The Music – Britney Spears featuring Madonna 35: Change Clothes – Jay-Z 34: Hold On – Good Charlotte 33: Me, Myself And I – Beyonce 32: The Trouble With Love Is – Kelly Clarkson 31: The First Cut Is The Deepest – Sheryl Crow 30: God Is A DJ – Pink LDD: Have You Ever? – Brandy 29: Addicted – Enrique Iglesias 28: Falls On Me – Fuel 27: Numb – Linkin Park 26: F**k It (I Don't Want You Back) – Eamon 25: White Flag – Dido 24: Stacy's Mom – Fountains Of Wayne 23: Bright Lights – Matchbox Twenty 22: With You – Jessica Simpson 21: So Far Away – Staind 20: Harder To Breathe – Maroon 5 19: Breathe – Michelle Branch 18: Get Low – Lil' Jon & The Eastside Boyz 17: Invisible – Clay Aiken 16: Why Don't You & I – Santana featuring Alex Band 15: Milkshake – Kelis 14/LDD: The Voice Within – Christina Aguilera 13: Why Can't I? – Liz Phair 12: Holidae In – Chingy featuring Snoop Dogg & Ludacris 11: The Way You Move – Outkast 10: Stand Up – Ludacris Featuring Shawnna 9: (There's Gotta Be) More To Life – Stacie Orrico 8: Headstrong – Trapt 7: Baby Boy – Beyonce featuring Sean Paul 6: It's My Life – No Doubt LDD: Angel – Amanda Perez 5: Someday – Nickelback 4: Perfect – Simple Plan 3: Suga Suga – Baby Bash 2: Here Without You – 3 Doors Down 1: Hey Ya! – Outkast Sharing Widget |
