The story is episodic and the humor increasingly bitter as it looks at such characters as the mentally unstable Yossarian (Alan Arkin), the entrepreneurial Milo Minderbinder (Jon Voight), Colonel Cathcart (Martin Balsam) -- who would do anything to be featured in the Saturday Evening Post -- the bewildered chief of laundry Captain Major (formerly Major Major) (Bob Newhart), and the bombastic General Dreedle (Orson Welles).
