What kind of dvr or pvr do you use? How do you transfer files from your dvr to your computer? Ive been trying to figure out how to get files from a dish network dvr but cant find anything online about that. If you use cable instead of satellite then please still explain how you transfer files.

I use a Cable HD box connected to the PC via firewire and record the programs with TSReader.

Get cable or DirecTV. It seems DirecTV HD Plus DVR would be easy to get videos off their DVRs onto your PC. Heck, DirecTV even gives you a program to do so on their own website. Dish Network, on the other hand, is a different story and probably easiest method would be getting a capture card. Install one to your PC, connect the a/v cables from the DVR to the capture card, then press play on the DVR and press record in the capture software. This will be an analogue recording and is just fine for the lower resolution files, but if wanting to make HD stuff it is highly recommended to get some gear that will give you a raw digital copy of the stream - the picture and audio quality is much greater.
