Description
Influenced by Cream, Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull and Jimi Hendrix, this heavy blues outfit recorded two LP's in 1970, "Buttocks" and the soundtrack for the experimental movie "Julisteiden liimaajat" (Poster Pasters), known as the Finnish movie with the all-time worst box-office success.
Charlies began suffering from internal difficulties in 1971, the band split, reformed with a different lineup, and started playing very varying styles of material. Three tracks for a proposed single were recorded in 1973, but two of them were released on a compilation only, and the third one was dug up from the vaults and released on a compilation CD in 1998. After more lineup changes Charlies split in 1975. In 1997, Charlies was reformed again, and has since toured regularly. Not to be confused with another Charlies, a light dance band, founded in 1995! Here you have both albums, the "Julisteiden liimaajat" CD adds bonus tracks dug up from the tape vaults of guitarist Eero Ravi's collection. "They were made between 1968-1970 in a rehearsal studio with two takes, first the instruments and then the vocals ... These raw tapes show the real energy and skill of the Charlies", as the inner notes tell us. Musiikkia elokuvasta Julisteiden liimaajat (1970): 1. Taiteen kritiikistä 2. Rautavaimo 3. Don't Go Out 4. And finally three songs cut for Love Records in 1973. The absurd cattlewoman story "Karjakko Moisio" and the ballad "Ohutta yläpilveä" were supposed to be released as a single, but ended up on the compilation "Rock & roll juhlaa 2" (1973) instead. "Pikku musta" was left unreleased because of its naughty subject matter (the "little black" refers to a woman's genital hair), and didn't see the light of day until 1998, when it was included on the "Love proge 2" comp. 1.
