Cipriano de Rore - 5th Book of Madrigals - Anthony Rooley, The Consort of Musicke (1993) [Philidor; FLAC] (Size: 239.81 MB)
DescriptionCipriano da Rore (1515-1565) was one of the first major composers of madrigals as they were constituted in the 16th century. (They also had a very different form in the 14th.) His secular songs and madrigals were usually written to serious subjects, and they reflected well the shifting expressiveness of the texts he set. This recording was part of a fine series made by The Consort of Musicke, which for contractual reasons was allowed to go out of print. They haven't resurfaced since. The engineering is a bit distant for my tastes, but the balance is excellent, and the singing first rate. Full bio of da Rore, along with pictures, inside.
