Description
Classic BATTLESTAR GALACTICA
"The Living Legend" complete edition work print =============================================== version 1.0 total running time: 108 minutes This is the most complete version of the best episode (or second best, depending on your view of the pilot movie) of the original BSG series. The late Lloyd Bridges (SKY KING, NORTH AND SOUTH, AIRPLANE, et al) stars in a tour- de-force as the legendary Commander Cain, who is both the ragtag Colonial fleet's savior and bane in dealing with a pesky Cylon base in the Gammoray star system. If you've never seen the full episode, that is to say the story as it was originally intended to be shown, then you're in for a real treat. Sources are as follows: - Classic BSG series DVD boxset (for the episode as broadcast and deleted scenes) - THE LIVING LEGEND telemovie (fan sourced, for one or two odd audio clips) - MISSION GALACTICA: THE CYLON ATTACK R4 PAL DVD release (for footage and scenes not present in the series DVDs) - MISSION GALACTICA: THE CYLON ATTACK R1 LD release (for the original MGCA NTSC audio track) Regarding the last two, these were combined and resynched to produce a NTSC-proper MGCA digital source print. Before you begin watching, be warned. This print still has various audio and video issues. We didn't try to rebalance the colors and contrasts among our sources, so you'll occasionally see tint shifts and such. Can't be helped, as it's more of a pain than it's worth. With regards to the audio, the best we could do was try to re-balance the audio among our sources. We didn't try to reconstruct the audio for the restored deleted scenes, such as the two IL-series Cylons talking about what's really happening at Gammoray, because it's beyond our skill. There's also a couple of lines that got clipped. One was a production gaffe that's present in every print (Cassie's clipped line about Bojay's injuries); the other had to be cut for proper BGM matching (Apollo's "There they are" when he and Starbuck are approaching the two base stars in their Vipers). Perhaps a better faneditor out there can do what we couldn't; we just tried to make do with what we had and what we were capable of doing. Regarding the video, every known unique scene is present in this print. Yes, every UNIQUE one. We did omit some duplicated stock footage and some alternate camera angles, but this was largely a matter of which video source we chose for a given scene or series of scenes. Those of you who are unfamiliar with the MGCA version of the story are in for a surprise, as there's lots of extra footage now present for your enjoyment. Most of it is stock footage, but there are at least two scenes - the extended version of Cain's arrival aboard the Galactica and Apollo's Gammoray mission briefing aboard the jump shuttle - that are NOT present in the DVD box set. We took the liberty of reordering some of the scenes in order to make the story flow better. Thus, our print opens as with MGCA, starting with the Colonial fleet almost out of fuel and then switching to the Pegasus chasing after the Galactica's patrol. Likewise, the sequencing of some of the restored scenes was changed from that used in all "official" prints (episode as broadcast, the telemovie, and MGCA), again because of story flow issues. Oh, and Apollo now grips his blaster with his LEFT hand like he's supposed to when confronting Sheba and Bojay over the fuel. There is also one new scene near the end, as indicated by the classic BSG second-season writer's bible ... but we'll let you savor that one when it happens. The whole point of this project was to create a print of "The Living Legend" as complete as possible. All we ask in return is that you forward a copy on to your favorite BSG faneditors (hello, David Kerin!). Perhaps their talents can take up this project from here. [vva] Sharing Widget |
