Out West Artist: Clifton Chenier Title: Out West Release Date: 1991 (1974) Producer: Chris Strachwitz Label: Arhoolie Records Catalog #: CD 350 Country: USA Genre: Swamp Blues, Zydeco, Cajun, Creole Music, R&B Time: 01:05:01 AllMusic Review by Ron Wynn: Special guests Elvin Bishop and Steve Miller joined Chenier for an excellent outing blending blues and rock influences with zydeco. Chenier's vocals were tough and convincing, while Bishop and Miller, along with saxophonist Jon Hart, were outstanding. Amazon.com Review by Robert Baird: Another outstanding Chenier disc on Arhoolie, this collection has as its centerpiece a session that zydeco accordion player Chenier did in 1973 with guitarist Elvin Bishop ("Fooled Around and Fell in Love") and his piano player Steve Miller (not the Steve Miller). This set of Chenier originals has a distinctly blues rock edge and includes many tunes that were mainstays in Chenier's live shows, like "The Hucklebuck" and "Zydeco Cha Cha." This collection finishes with three cuts from a 1971 KSAN radio broadcast and one remake of Chenier's drunken ode to love "I'm a Hog for You" from another 1971 San Francisco recording session. Yet another example of why he was truly "The King of Zydeco." 01. I'm On The Wonder (4:20) 02. The Hucklebuck (3:12) 03. Je Marche Le Plancher (You Know It Ain't Fair) (2:55) 04. Calinda (3:28) 05.
