TRAMA:

Luke è un abile pilota di moto in uno spettacolo ambulante alla sua ultima serata nella provincia dello stato di New York. Dovrebbe partire il giorno dopo, ma scopre di avere un figlio, Jason, nato da una breve relazione con Romina, una ragazza del posto che ha frequentato l'anno prima. Decide quindi di rimanere per provvedere alla sua nuova famiglia e impedire che suo figlio cresca senza un padre, come è accaduto a lui. Dopo aver tentato di trovare un lavoro onesto, Luke si rende conto che le rapine in piccole banche locali con successiva fuga in moto sono il metodo più veloce per procurarsi in fretta il denaro di cui ha bisogno, ma "chi corre come un fulmine, si schianta come un tuono", ed è così che la folle corsa di Luke si arresta davanti alla recluta di polizia Avery Cross, anch'egli padre da poco. Quindici anni dopo, Jason e il figlio di Avery stringono amicizia al liceo, ma il passato che li lega riaffiora e la vecchia violenza chiama nuova violenza.

STORYLINE:

A mysterious and mythical motorcycle racer, Luke, (Ryan Gosling) drives out of a traveling carnival globe of death and whizzes through the backstreets of Schenectady, New York, desperately trying to connect with a former lover, Romina, (Eva Mendes) who recently and secretly gave birth to the stunt rider's son. In an attempt to provide for his new family, Luke quits the carnival life and commits a series of bank robberies aided by his superior riding ability. The stakes rise as Luke is put on a collision course with an ambitious police officer, Avery Cross, (Bradley Cooper) looking to quickly move up the ranks in a police department riddled with corruption. The sweeping drama unfolds over fifteen years as the sins of the past haunt the present days lives of two high school boys wrestling with the legacy they've inherited. The only refuge is found in the place beyond the pines.
