guys it's been a long time since I last played CS, does this work with non steam server, or only for lan parties ?

The normal competetive matchmaking is 5v5, yeah. If you think that's boring there's A LOT of sites offering competetive modes with different sizes on the teams.

Other than that you have 64 slot community servers, whether it's rotation/pub, zombie, minigames, jailbreak etc.

Maybe you should try the game before talking. =)
