Author’s Note Excerpt: CREDIBLE WARNING, Book Two Excerpt: Tuesday, 11:50 AM, Day Zero New York City Police Officer Pablo Jose Jenkins got the call at 11:50 AM. His lunch break was supposed to start in ten minutes. The dispatcher said there was a disturbance at the federal courthouse at Foley Square. PJ Jenkins didn't know what to make of it. Some guy had driven his motorcycle over the curb, up the stairs and parked near the front door. Dispatch said that the guy had a backpack, but didn’t appear to be a deliveryman, because he hadn't gotten off the bike. Jenkins was less than five minutes away from the scene, but he figured the bike and driver would be gone by the time he got there. Jenkins drove slowly just to be sure. To Jenkins, the day seemed calmer than usual, even for a Tuesday. His duty shift had started almost four hours ago, and this was his first substantive call from dispatch. Jenkins made a U-turn on Centre Street and headed south toward Foley Square. The day was warm, clear, and sunny. It was unusually good weather for mid September. Perhaps the usual troublemakers were enjoying the weather, and the guy on the bike was just having fun. Sharing Widget |
