Description

The evergreen sounds of those classic polyphonic synths (Prophet, Juno, Jupiter, Matrix, etc.) are the focus
of this sample collection. 16 synth patches were created across a variety of sources, and to warm up their
digital bones they were recorded through an Arsenal Audio R24 EQ and Focusrite ISA828 preamps. The EQ
was only used to push the HF/LF ends a wee bit whilst trimming back midrange harshness, but it was mainly
there to shove some transformers in the signal path. The ISA828 is very clean, but there is a slight
enlivening effect that can discerned when used as a line level amplifier.

The base synth patches were created to make the most of the classic oscillator/filter relationships we tend to
associate with the analogue polyphonics, but they were also kept on the more 'vanilla' side to maximise
usefulness – bathe them in delay, reverb, flange/phase, and don't forget some spicy distortion. This way they
will also withstand a hefty dose of EQ/filter shaping without breaking up, and as for compression...well, don't
be shy!

The samples are split into two folders: Chord Hits and Instruments. Pretty self-explanatory. The Chord Hits
are made up of seven chords (major, 6 th , 9 th , minor, minor 6 th , minor 7 th and diminished) in three keys (A, C &
E) to minimise pitch shifting in order to shoe-horn into a track. Each chord sustains for about 8 seconds, so
there's plenty to fit a bar or two, and splicing the tail into something longer is a synch. The Instruments folder
contains all 16 patches with individual white notes from C0 to C5. For the 12 non-oneshot multisamples the
sustain loop points are embedded in the WAV file so clip-free sustain can be available in any sampler
without any additional programming.

The Kontakt instruments (created in version 5) feature a ladder LPF assigned to CC74 and an 4-pole HPF
assigned to CC01 (Mod Wheel). A ramp up sawtooth wave LFO modulates the amplitude and is
controlled/applied via Aftertouch (press for a ¼ note pumping effect).
