Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair es una aventura de rompecabezas que nos envía a una paradisíaca isla junto a un grupo de estudiantes destacados de la Hope’s Peak Academy. Pero lo que parece una excursión utópica se volverá un macabro juego cuando descubramos que para salir debemos matar a nuestros compañeros y sobrevivir en ese lugar aislado y bajo la vigilancia de cientos de cámaras de seguridad al mas puro estilo Battle Royale.

Comienza de forma similar al primero. Dieciséis estudiantes, los mejores en sus ámbitos (gimnasta Definitiva, yakuza Definitivo...) aparecen encerrados en una clase. Sin embargo, esta resulta ser un decorado dentro de una isla tropical. Todos ellos se van haciendo a la idea de que allí vivirán una existencia pacífica con la ayuda de la robot Usumi, pero sus planes se hacen trizas cuando aparece de nuevo Monokuma para retomar su juego mortal: quien quiera salir de la isla deberá matar a otro estudiante y no ser descubierto en un juicio donde el resto tratará de descubrir al culpable.

Danganronpa 2 mantiene el núcleo del juego casi intacto, y concentra sus esfuerzos en engancharnos de nuevo con la historia, donde Monokuma se gradúa con honores como villano. Supera en muchos elementos al primero, sobre todo en unos juicios que son más divertidos desde el principio, pero en conjunto se termina quedando un poco por detrás por falta de ese continuo elemento sorpresa del primer título que logró que cada minuto de la historia nos cogiese desprevenidos.
