Daughters Courageous (1939) NTSC DVD5 VIDEO_TS

The 3 musical Lane sisters and Gale Page created a series of films directed by Michael Curtiz (of Casablanca, White Christmas, Mildrid Pearce fame). The first was Four Daughters which is here and currently seeded (June 24, 2011), and the others were Four Wives and Four Mothers. They are all good, but don't look for much that is deep. This is 30's escapism at its best.
This film does not really fit in the series and is actually about a different family. One might wonder why. John Garfield, who's first film was Four Daughters, had become a big star so they wanted to include him in the next one. But he had died in Four Daughters, so what to do? So they altered the plan of the film to make it a different family. In this case it worked very well and the result is this enjoyable film.
I will be reseeding Four Daughters (or re-upping it if the reseed doesn't work), and also uploading Four Wives and Four Mothers very soon. Like this one, they are all comedy/drama/romance.
SYNOPSIS:
Nan Masters, a single mother living with her four marriageable daughters, plans to marry Sam Sloane, businessman. Out of the blue her 1st husband Jim returns after deserting the family 20 years earlier. The worldly wanderer Jim gets a cool family reception at first but his warm personality gradually wins the affections of his four daughters. In fact, youngest daughter Buff, who has her eye on a maverick of her own in Gabriel Lopez, is pleased when Jim grants his stamp of approval on her relationship. Buff plans to elope with Gabriel on her mother's wedding day, but 'unpredictable' is Gabriel's middle name.
