The songs, dances, and instrumental pieces of Scotland and Ireland embody one of the richest treasuries of European traditional music, and this Telarc program by guitarist David Russell represents the principal musical genres from both countries: song, lament, jig, reel, hornpipe, and strathspey. Rounding out this recording are recent compositions of Ron Moore and Peter Maxwell Davies inspired by Scotland, and concert pieces based on Scottish themes by the ninteenth-century guitarist-composers Fernando Sor and Mauro Giuliani.
