How are the movie and the series connected? What do I watch first?

From what I've heard, the movie is the same story but the series follows and explains it better and is more true to the manga. The Movie is a trilogy so 2 more movies left. So I think you should watch the TV Series rather than the movies. It's always better to watch both though.
