What is the difference?

with HC (hardcoded) subs you cannot watch the film without the subtitles which are "coded" on it, with SC (softcoded) you can either decide to watch it with spanish subs or any other subs you can download using certain softwares or watch it without subs. Sorry to bother you but I'm italian and i'd be glad to watch it subtitled in italian :)
