The pair cut an uneven but thoroughly enjoyable album together entitled Brotherly Love, which was released in 1982 and produced by Jerry Bradley. It featured a woolly hodgepodge of honky tonk and rocking drinking songs that included Dillon's classic "Honky Tonk Crazy." Later in the year, after touring together, they cut a fine if criminally under-noticed mini-album called Those Were the Days. All of the tracks were co-writes between the two, and often with another collaborator. Here, "Hard Times for Lovers," and "Losers and Lovers" are weepers that work so well they seem timeless. As a bonus, Raven, being the good folks they are, added all of Dillon's hard country singles cut between 1979 and 1983. This is an excellent package, capturing a glimpse of both artists and a rare period in Nash Vegas history when it was actually adventurous. Visit my Radio Website Sharing Widget |
