Debussy - Jeux - Celibidache, Berlin Phil (1948) [Philidor; FLAC]

Celibidache in 1948 was one of several conductors being considered for the Berlin Philharmonic's highest post. As usual, his willingness to speak loudly to the press about whatever was bothering him in his job meant he lost out, and the eventual recipient, Karajan, had a stipulation added to his contract that two conductors could never be invited in as guests while he remained in charge: Bernstein, and Celibidache. His Jeux is a wealth of color and great vigor, as though heard anew for the first time.
