PERKS AND TIT

Perks & Tit is a live album released by Deep Purple, recorded at the San Diego Sports Arena on 9 April 1974 during the band's U.S tour in support of Burn. It was released in 2004 in celebration of its 30th anniversary and 29 years after this incarnation of the group (Mark III) dissolved. The album was made officially available (via mail order) by Purple Records and the Deep Purple Appreciation Society (DPAS) for a limited time through its Sonic Zoom imprint, although many bootlegs of the show had circulated for years.

This album was recorded at the final show of a highly successful American tour, the first to feature new members David Coverdale (Lead vocals) and Glenn Hughes (Bass, vocals) replacing Ian Gillan and Roger Glover respectively, and just 3 days after Deep Purple's legendary performance at the California Jam. Many fans in attendance to both shows agree that the band managed to outdo themselves with this show, reaching new levels of musical brilliance. This could be partly attributed to the fact that the band, and especially guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, were eager to firmly establish the new lineup in the minds of American fans.

Even though the show is considered to be one of the best in a career full of great shows, the resulting album failed to capture the whole show: indeed, while it wasn't intended to be "officially" recorded (a fact stated by Hughes himself during the performance), soundboard recordings (essentially a sort of "sound log" done by the sound engineers on a regular basis to fine-tune their settings) were rolling along, and they are the source for this release. But those recordings are in fact incomplete, missing "You Fool No One" and encore number "Space Truckin". The final running time of the record is roughly 50 minutes, while the actual show came close to the 80 minute- plus mark.

LIVE AT THE CALIFORNIA JAM

California Jamming is a live album by British hard rock band Deep Purple, recorded in 1974 and originally released in 1996. The album is a live recording of Deep Purple's infamous appearance at the California Jam Festival on 6 April 1974, which was televised by ABC-TV in prime time. It was one of the first to feature their third line-up, which included vocalist David Coverdale and bassist/vocalist Glenn Hughes. At the end of the show, guitarist Ritchie Blackmore first attacked one of the network's video cameras (which had been getting between him and the audience) with his guitar, and then had his amplifiers doused with gasoline and set on fire, which caused an explosion.

Most of this concert was broadcast over 4 weekends in April 1974 on KLOS-FM ABC-TV Stereo Simulcast, along with other California Jam artists.

LIVE IN GRAZ 1975

On April 3, 1975 the Mk III line-up of Purple – guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, frontman David Coverdale, bassist/vocalist Glenn Hughes, keyboard player Jon Lord and drummer Ian Paice – played a concert at the Liebenauer ice rink, located on the outskirts of mountaincradled Graz, Austria’s second largest city after Vienna. Enthused by Purple’s arrival in town, the local press dubbed the concert ‘das Rockereignis des Jahres [the rock event of the year]’. And it was – in more ways than one.

After Graz, Purple would play just two more shows – in Saarbrücken, Germany and Paris, France – before a disenchanted and disgruntled Blackmore left to form his new band, Rainbow. The remaining Purple members would regroup quickly with American guitarist Tommy Bolin in tow, in place of Blackmore.

MADE IN EUROPE

Made in Europe is a live album released by Deep Purple, recorded on the final dates in April 1975 before Ritchie Blackmore left Deep Purple. It was released in October 1976, after the group had broken up. Made in Europe features songs recorded in concert 4 April in Graz, Austria, 5 April in Saarbrücken, Germany, and 7 April 1975 in Paris, France with the Rolling Stones Mobile Studio. According to the liner notes included on Mk III: The Final Concerts, though, the material featured on Made in Europe came, for the most part, from the Saarbrücken show. The album is said to have experienced extensive studio editing and/or overdubbing of crowd noise and applause. Certainly there is a tape-loop of applause, given away by a whistling fan.

The songs featured on the album are from Deep Purple's Burn and Stormbringer albums.
