How I fixed the color problem:

Put the .cue in the virtual drive and go into the drive and click on autorun.exe

This way you dont install the game to your pc but just runs it from the virtual drive.

Too bad I stopped playing cause I have no clue what to do xD

Running fine on my win7. You have to close the explorer.exe from task manager and then run it, otherwise the dreaded color problems may persist.

To get it working I had to install it on a virtual machine -- VirtualBoX running Win98 works great. Regular installs on several different computers (each running WinXP SP3 or higher) always crashed during game startup.
The VirtualBox workaround is kind of a pain, but this is far from the only game from the 90s where the only way to run it is virtually using an OS from the 90s. It's worth it for a classic like this though.
