Trama

Un pò prima di mezzanotte, un uomo viene trovato morto nel letto di Nora Timmer, assistente del procuratore distrettuale. Sulle prime sembra un assassinio di legittima difesa contro un tentativo di stupro. Ma quando uno sconosciuto, Luther Pinks, si presenta alla centrale di polizia fornendo una versione diversa dell'omicidio, il gioco ha inizio. Ford Cole, il procuratore Distrettuale, (fidanzato di Nora) ha tempo sino all'alba per risolvere il mistero dell'assassinio o resterà implicato anche lui nella sua ragnatela. La sua indagine sembra rivelare che l'assassinio preluda ad un ulteriore crimine che avverrà alle 5 della mattina. Ma la natura di cosa stia per accadere non è chiara. Ford dovrà affrontare lunghe ore di buio totale prima di risolvere il mistero, fermare il crimine e, non da ultimo, togliere la maschera ad una donna dalla personalità complessa, la sua donna.
