Duffy [born Aimee Ann Duffy on June 23rd 1984 in Bangor, Gwynedd, Wales], is a Welsh singer-songwriter. Her debut album 'Rockferry' was originally released in March 2008 and entered the UK Album Chart at No.1. It was the best selling album in the United Kingdom in 2008 and has sold over five million copies worldwide. In 2009, she won a Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album for 'Rockferry', and she was nominated for two other Grammy awards. At the 2009 BRIT Awards, she was the event's big winner scooping awards for "Best Album", "Best British Female Solo Artist" and best "Breakthrough Act", the UK's premier music honours. Duffy was the first Welsh female to achieve a No.1 pop single in twenty-five years with her second single 'Mercy'.



'Rockferry' is the Grammy and Brit award winning, debut studio album by Welsh singer Duffy, first released in March 2008 by Mercury Records in collaboration with Universal Records in the US and with Polydor Records in the UK. The album became a worldwide success, becoming the best selling album in the UK in 2008, with 1.7 million copies sold. The album became the fourth best selling album of 2008 worldwide. The album title 'Rockferry', according to Duffy, is loosely based on Rock Ferry, a suburb of Birkenhead, on the Wirral Peninsula and approximately ten miles from the Welsh border and three miles from Liverpool. The album won a Grammy Award for "Best Pop Vocal Album" at the 51st Annual Grammy Awards, which were presented in February 2009. Rockferry was ranked 30th on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the Best Albums of 2008. The album also won "Album Of The Year" at the 2009 BRIT Awards.
