"Ellery Queen" was an American-based television series originally airing from 1975-1976. The series was a throw-back to the days of mystery radio-plays; shows where the audience was challenged to solve the mystery along with the lead detective character.
In the television series, Ellery Queen works as a successful mystery writer alongside his police inspector father helping solve puzzling crimes ranging from murder to theft to assault. The beauty of the series lies in the clues presented to the audience as the show proceeds. The goal of the series----and of fans of the series---was to have the audience solve the mystery along with Ellery Queen.
The series was short-lived, but was ground-breaking in its effort to promote audience participation. The complexity of the crimes and clues may have ultimately been the show's undoing. The series, however, can hardly be faulted for demanding attention to detail and analytical thinking as a prerequisite to enjoying quality television.
A definite must-have series for any fan of mysteries!
