in the past,and very rarely today, groups of villagers, especially of the region of Camacha, would gather around small pounds ("eiras") where wheat for flour would be beaten. This area or point of social interaction flourished usually, not only as a locale for communal labour, but also as a meeting place for the villagers to dance and sing in their free time. The "eira" would naturally extend into many other areas of social particiation: story telling, dance contests, and games.
