Description Eustache du Caurroy was a prominent late 16th century French composer, well known for his conservative organ works, and progressive vocal ones. These fantasias of his take after the former category, but are none the worse for their overarching concern with counterpoint. If anything, Caurroy uses it to make profoundly expressive points, ranging from melancholy to great wit. This recording catches Jordi Savall at a relatively early point in his burgeoning international career, and the broad diversity of colors that Hesperion XX produces are applied to individual fantasias with relish. Transfers are made at 768 kBits/s, directly from the disc. Bio enclosed.
