Food, Wine & Song - Music & Feasting in Renaissance Europe - Orlando Consort (2001) [Philidor; FLAC] (Size: 312.39 MB)
DescriptionThe subject of the Orlando Consort's "Food Wine & Song" album is just that. The program ranges across western and central Europe in the 14th and 15th centuries, praising various foods and wines, and occasionally including selections whose thematic connection is tenuous. (So a composer says his new song is sweet as porridge--really? That's enough?) Numerous illustrated woodcuts are included, as are a host of early Renaissance recipes. A bio of the Orlando Consort is enclosed. So are the original texts and translations in several languages, for 120 pages. If some of the pages are angled, their sheer number and the thick, stiff cardboard covers made getting a clean image tough. But everything is well-focused, and the disc in great fun.
