Description Francesco Durante was among the most promising students of Alessandro Scarlatti at Naples' Conservatorio di Sant'Onofrio. He succeeded his teacher there in 1725, and then became head of the Conservatorio di Santa Maria di Loreto. Best known for his sacred music, he wrote in all current genres save opera. His harpsichord works demonstrate both a melodic ease one would expect from the Italians, plus a technical expertise that few of his compatriots of the day bothered to match in such a popular form. But Durante took his art seriously, even when, as here, it was frivolous. He always gave his best. Transfers are made at 768 kBits/s, directly from the disc. Bio enclosed.
