Episode 7 The Earth Abides

Seventhth episode of the brilliant new 7 part Australian miniseries, Gallipoli.

After eight months of failures, General Hamilton is sacked and Lord Kitchener finally visits Gallipoli to assess the situation. In freezing winter conditions the ANZACS prepare for a mass evacuation, without alerting the Turks.

The greatest invasion in the history of warfare was to become a diabolical failure – an eight-month siege where the bravery of Anzac troops was squandered. But in doing so a legend, and a nation, were born.

As dawn breaks on April 25, 1915, ANZAC troops go into battle on the beaches of the Gallipoli peninsula. Landing in the dark chaos, Tolly, Bevan and their mates struggle to establish a tenuous foothold on the treacherous slopes and deep ravines. They endure the next eight months on the peninsula learning lessons of survival. By the time of the final evacuation they have also learned the skills of combat and what it means to be a young man in war.

This is a World Class, Epic Australian production, adapted from the best-selling book Gallipoli, by Les Carlyon.

Gallipoli is produced by Endemol Australia and was shot over a three month period commencing on 17 March 2014.

Filming took place in Melbourne and surrounding areas, including Bacchus Marsh and Werribee.

The 25th of April 1915 landing was recreated on the Mornington Peninsula.
