Description
2013 24-bit/88.2kHz Stereo Downmix of the classic 1971 Genesis album Nursery Cryme.
The original "taster" tracks are not included here. All are new downmixes. GENESIS DOWNMIXES ----------------- This little experiment was undertaken in an effort to make the 2007 Nick Davis stereo remixes more listenable. The problems with the remixes are as follows: 1. Too much compression - the tracks are victims to the Loudness Wars 2. Aggresive EQ done on an SSL console - very bright, clinical and fatiguing 3. Bad choices - some frankly awful vocal takes have appeared in place of some of the originals, and previously discarded sub-par elements have been brought back into the mix There's nothing we can do about number 3. But we can attempt to fix 1 and 2, by using the less-compressed 5.1 surround mix. Here's how. 1. The iso/dff files were ripped from the SACD with a PS3 2. The 5.1 dff files were converted to 6 discreet 32-bit wav channels in Saracon 3. The 6 wav files were imported into a DAW (Cubase 4) 4. Some minor EQ'ing was done to remove some brightness, using the Isotope Ozone plug-in 5. Each song was mixed down to 2-channel stereo twice: in 24/88.2 and 16/44.1 This is not designed to make the original mixes (the earliest CDs and the Definitive Editions) obsolete, as in many ways the earlier ones are clearly superior (Rutherford's Rickenbacker bass sounds like a real Rickenbacker bass and not a minimoog). However, for clarity and separation the 2007 mixes are better. And now with less compression and EQ they are hopefully more listenable. Related Torrents
