Geoff Hamilton was undoubtedly Britain's most popular gardener, with his blend of down-to-earth practical advice, moneysaving ideas and sheer enthusiasm for everything to do with gardening. Barnsdale, his own garden in Rutland, became almost as familiar to the millions of viewers who tune in to Gardeners' World each week as their own back yard.

Geoff died of a heart attack, his second, in 1996 while taking part in a sponsored charity bike ride.
