The series begins when Rory Gilmore (Alexis Bledel) is accepted into the elite Chilton prep school and dreams of attending Harvard. This is bad news for her mother, Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham), as she must reconcile with her parents Emily (Kelly Bishop) and Richard (Edward Herrmann) in order to borrow the money for Rory's tuition. Rory meets Dean (Jared Padalecki) and has second thoughts about attending Chilton.
