St. Elsewhere is the debut album of Gnarls Barkley, a collaboration between Danger Mouse and Cee-Lo. It was released on April 24, 2006 in the United Kingdom, where it debuted at number one on the Album Chart, and on May 9, 2006 in the United States, although it was available for purchase one week earlier as a digital download in the U.S. iTunes Music Store. It debuted at number twenty on the U.S. Billboard 200, and as of the Billboard 200 issue date of August 05, 2006, it peaked at No. 4 on this chart. The album has received overwhelmingly positive reviews from music critics, most who praised the album's innovation and high production values. As of August 22, 2006, the album has been shipped to stores in excess of 1,000,000 units, recieving a platinum certification.



The album's first single "Crazy" was the first ever single to top the UK singles chart purely on download sales as it was released online a week before it was released as a CD single. It is also the first single to top the UK singles chart for nine weeks consecutively since 1994 when Wet Wet Wet's "Love Is All Around" was number one for fourteen weeks [the last song to spend exactly nine weeks on top was "Two Tribes" by Frankie Goes To Hollywood in 1984]. It has also equalled the Queen 1975 classic "Bohemian Rhapsody", which also topped the UK singles chart for nine weeks. Crazy is also the longest number-one on the UK Official Download Chart with its stay lasting eleven consecutive weeks.



"Smiley Faces" was released 17 July 2006 as the second single from the album in the United Kingdom. The song entered the UK Official Download Chart on 3 May 2006 at number 152 and it climbed the chart until its peak at number 12 on 9 August 2006. It entered the UK Singles Chart on July 16, 2006 at number 23 based on download sales alone, climbing to no.10 after the physical release was available.

Gnarls Barkley - Crazy [2006]

Going along with the psychedelic theme of the song, Gnarls Barkley's music video for "Crazy" is done in the style of the Rorschach inkblot test. Animated, mirrored inkblots morph into another, while taking on ambigious shapes. Both Cee-Lo and Danger Mouse appear in the shapes, as do the band's gunshot-heart logo and various animals, including centipedes, bats, spiders, and insects.



Gnarls Barkley - Smiley Faces [2006]

The video shows musical acts and cultural events from the 1920s to the 1990s, with Cee-Lo and producer Danger Mouse in the background. The effect is similar to that of Woody Allen editing himself into archival film footage in Zelig.
