1680: A woman is burned at the stake as a which, promising that once in every 100 years, one of her female decendants will receive her magic powers. The price of this is the murder of another of her female descendants, once the victim is aged 25. In 1780 and 1880, 25 year old girls died in mysterious circumstances, one in the company of her maiden aunt. It is now 1980 and Susan is just about to turn 25, and her aunt seems determined to keep others away from the young woman........

A great supernatural thriller and one of my favourites for the past 35 years, with an unexpected twist in the tail.
