Gov't Mule
Georg Elser Halle 09.05.05 Munich, Germany After a much needed day of rest, Munchen, Germany is the next setting for a Mule show. This show, set in a very German styled club complete with yellow columns and exposed heating ducts, was attended well by our Bavarian brethren. Not-the-normal crowd calls for not-the-normal setlist. So, just to get the non-normal show rolling right, the Mule came out with their usual show or set closer, the beloved, “Soulshine.” The Germans loved it, so the Mule kept the not-normal theme going with rarely played, but much loved, “Monkey Hill.” A nice “Game Face/ Mountain Jam” sandwich ensued, out of which came an exploratory version of “Trane.” A rare, “Mr. Big” was a BIG surprise, as was the “Left Coast Groovies” which followed it and brought the best out in all 4 band members. The second set, not to be outdone, opened with another rarity, “Indifference,” which was followed by a personal favorite, Tom Waits’ “Going Out West.” Another sandwich ensued, this one containing the contrasting moods of “Effigy” and Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues” which exploded into a riveting “Drums.” The “Lay Your Burden Down” gave the German crowd a chance to practice their English in a sing along, and the encore, “New World Blues” was an apt ending to a fabulous display of a Mule show. .
