Description

A 2013 BBC production (broadcast at 832 x 468) about the birth of modern art.

The heading states it's the "Great THINKERS in Their Own Words". It is not.
This is "Great ARTISTS in Their Own Words". Tried to rectify it, but the auto-fill won't budge.

During the 20th-century a new breed of artists emerged, shaped by two world wars, sexual liberation and the consumer revolution.

With the advent of television, they were able to speak about their work to a mass audience.

This new, three-part documentary looks at the artists who created this cultural sea change, drawing on the wealth of television appearances in the BBC’s vast archive collections.

The first episode, The Future Is Now, looks at artists who came of age after the First World War, from the startling work of Picasso, the explosion of colour in the paintings of Matisse, to LS Lowry’s industrial cityscapes and the shocking work of surrealists Max Ernst, Rene Magritte and Salvador Dali.
