870MB is enough to encode episodes -with an average duration of 25:00- at splendid quality, but using settings resulting in only 2 ReFrames isn't going to work... My recommendation: (re-)rip it with (what did you use? HandBrake?) using at least 5 (slow) or 8 (slower) ReFrames...
PS:
if your source is DVD, then use a resolution of 640x480, else, if your source is Blu-Ray:
use a resolution of 1440x1080 or 960x720 to match the original 4:3 aspect ratio of this wonderful series
