Description

A couple of days ago, skleem uploaded an audiobook of Harry Harrison's "Deathworld". It's a LibriVox recording.

Librivox are a bunch of people who voluntarily record audiobooks and make them available online. All their recordings come from public domain sources pretty much Project Gutenberg exclusively . Because the people who voice these books are amateur volunteers, the quality can uh... vary. But this recording of Deathworld is very good and I liked it a lot.

The only real problem is that there is a VERY intrusive "LibriVox disclaimer" that's what they call it at the start of each and every chapter. It's frigging ridiculous and it spoils my enjoyment of the story. I even went so far as to join the LibriVox website in order to ask about this on their forum. The answers were all pretty passive-aggressive: "If you don't like it, start your own audiobook website" or "Go to Audible or Amazon if you want audiobooks without these disclaimers." and "Listener pleasure is just a side effect of why we do this." I don't like those people very much.

Anyway, to cut a long story short too late , I took one of the more sensible suggestions onboard although I doubt they meant it in a sensible way "If you don't like the disclaimers, edit them out." And that's precisely what I did. I was sufficiently annoyed by those people to get out my MPEG frame trimming tools and cut off all the disclaimers apart from the very first and very last ones.

Because I used a frame trimmer, this means that the files were cut to individual frames and thus the MP3's are not re-encoded in any way, so the quality is precisely the same as it is in skleem's torrent.

Oh and I did check with a moderator on here to see if it's okay to upload what is almost exactly the same torrent. They said it was.

Quote:Jason dinAlt is a gambler whose psi talents enable him to influence the fall of the dice. He is contacted by Kerk, an ambassador from the planet Pyrrus. Kerk wants dinAlt to gamble and win with his money, to raise enough money for him to buy weapons for the Pyrrans to fight a war. They are fighting against their planet, where every plant and animal seems to have a way, and a wish, to kill men.

Intrigued by these circumstances, dinAlt travels back to Pyrrus with Kerk. Here he must learn to survive in the high gravity, and train his reflexes to deal with sudden attacks from the flora and fauna. dinAlt decides to find out why the planet is attacking the Pyrrans.
