Description
Middle Eastern - Dance - Instrumental
"A contemporary Middle Eastern journey" This is the one hour program from Hearts of Space Radio Show that was first broadcast on the weekend of April 17, 1998. Music split to MP3s at VBR, voiceovers suppressed. Tracklist with Program Notes provided, of course. Program Notes - Stephen Hill, Producer Maybe its our experience of the scores of classic Hollywood movies like "Lawrence of Arabia" but it only takes a few notes in one of these exotic sounding minor scales and we begin to think of North African deserts, nomadic camel caravans and dark eyed dancers. In fact the soulful, trance-like music of the Arabic countries of the Middle East has a rich and ancient history. Under the enlightened rule of the 7th and 8th century caliphs, Arabian music brought together elements of Arabic-Semitic, Byzantine-Hellenistic, early Christian, Persian, and African music, and developed into one of the most influential musical cultures in the world. On this edition of HEARTS of SPACE called ARABIAN NIGHTS we feature a number of contemporary artists extending the tradition of Arabic music with new productions, new instruments and new compositions.
