DescriptionPGM 986 : "EUROTRONIC" PGM NOTE : the European sound in electronic music GENRE(s) : Ambient/Downtempo, Electronic Space, Non-Seasonal FIRST BROADCAST : 27-Jul-2012 INTRO : These days music moves around the globe with the speed of light. New styles and genres breed and combine every day. So what's it mean to say there's a European sound in electronic music? Forty years ago in the early 1970s, progressive German, French, and British artists embraced the new electronic instruments just being invented. Joined by Scandinavians, Spanish, Italians, Dutch, and others from around the continent, they distilled their classical and ethnic heritages into something new and different, yet sonically appealing. As told in the excellent music documentary KRAUTROCK, German artists and bands, with their aptitude for technology, were particularly influential. Those seminal days are long past; popular European electronic music became Disco, which morphed into Electronic Dance Music and went mainstream, while ambient and experimental electronic music are still evolving into a healthy niche in contemporary music. On this transmission of Hearts of Space, we focus on Euro-centric sounds and spaces on a program called EUROTRONIC. Sharing Widget |
