Basic Info

Hemanta Mukhopadhyay (Bengali: হেমন্ত কুমার মুখোপাধ্যায়; Hemonto Kumar Mukhopaddhae) also known as Hemanta Mukherjee and Hemant Kumar (16 June 1920 – 26 September 1989) was an accomplished Bengali singer, composer and producer.

Besides his many notable Hindi songs, Hemanta is considered as one of the greatest Bengali singers of all time. Alongside singing and composing for popular Bengali films and modern songs Hemanta sang many songs composed by Rabindranath Tagore, commonly known as Rabindra Sangeet (aka Tagore songs). This compilation incorporates many his finest rendition of some well-known Tagore Songs.

Premise for the Remastering

I've been listening to these songs from my childhood in various recorded formats like LP (vinyl), Cassettes and now in CDs. Unfortunately in the recent CDs I've noticed some serious flawed recordings. As a computer engineer by profession and being an audio enthusiast I dug deep into the matter found some serious issues with the CD releases of older songs.
The newer releases of the older songs sound really horrible. There are unnecessary and intrusive noise reduction applied to almost every track that makes them lifeless, dull and harsh. Each song has its own recording style in its era and is best heard in its original form. So, I grew strong intention to give the present day listeners a taste and feel of how the songs really sounded on the original recording.

The songs are taken from the best possible source, un-remastered CDs, original LPs and tapes, then remastered in 24bit/48KHz to obtain the best possible sound quality possible in all my knowledge and ability. It's really hard to reach the aural glory of the original master tapes that the studios like Saregama occupy, what they have either lost somehow or remastered horribly for CD release. Still it will sound way better than what you might have heard before.

The songs are transparently converted from 24bit/48KHz to 16bit/44.1KHz so that they're compatible with all sound-cards and you can directly burn them to audio CDs to play in a CD player. All files are encoded in lossless FLAC format.

However I've the original 24bit/48KHz recordings with me. There're many things that have to be done to ensure 24bit FLAC files to be played at full resolution in Windows or any environment, still anyone wishes to get the high resolution files can ask me for them. I'll upload them in some other torrent.
