Historically, lions and tigers have been pitted against each other, before. Ancient Romans enjoyed savage fights between these animals in the coliseum as is depicted in a mosaic from the House of the Faun in Pompeii. Gambling around fights is traditional and usually favors the tiger, who almost always wins. In nature these animals coexist, however, with population density rising, lions could be in danger of attack.

Lions weigh in around 500 lbs and their strength is in their paws. Male lions are vicious but remain at home, allowing the females to hunt in packs. Lions are social creatures but slower and have smaller brains than tigers. In addition, the tiger has a higher bite force than the lion.
