Si tratta di Noémie Wolfs, giovane diplomata in arti grafiche che li incanta ai provini con la sua versione di “Lovin’ you” di Minnie Riperton e “The game of love” di Santana. Lo stile Hooverphonic Noémie è scelta per rimpiazzare la vocalist originaria Geike Arnaert, che aveva deciso di lasciare il gruppo per dedicarsi alla carriera di solista. E la scelta si rivela vincente. Perché con l’energia e la grinta di Noémie, gli Hooverphonic registrano un album eccellente, che ha fatto parlare i critici di mix riuscito tra Burt Bacharach, Ennio Morricone e John Barry, ma nell’inconfondibile stile Hooverphonic. Il disco mette insieme vecchie canzoni che non avevano ancora trovato una veste adatta per risplendere (“Anger never dies”, “Danger zone”), brani nuovi (“The night before”, “How can you sleep” e “One, two, three”) e pezzi nati durante un seminario di compositori tenutosi in Norvegia (“Heartbroken”, “George’s Cafe” e “Norwegian stars”). Disco di platino Ottime canzoni per la gioia dei fan, anche illustri, come Bernardo Bertolucci, che volle subito una canzone della band “2 Wicky”, per la colonna sonora del suo film “Io ballo da sola”. Era la fine degli anni Novanta, e la band belga aveva lasciato il segno con il suo album d’esordio, “A new stereophonic sound spectacular”. Da allora gli Hooverphonic hanno continuato a dar vita a musica originale ed emozionante, culminata nel best “Singles 96 - 06”. Ora è la volta di “The night before”.
