The story unfolds from three intertwined threads: the trial, the hand of the young writer Allen Ginsberg (James Franco) and the poem itself, whose animation is provided by the graphic novelist and Ginsberg collaborator Eric Drooker, which shall conceived as a "fantasy beat", and whose music Carter Burwell has composed. The young defense attorney Jake Ehrlich Allen (Jon Hamm), a celebrated champion of civil cases. The prosecutor, Ralph McIntosh (David Strathairn) tries to prove that the work is obscene as it strives to understand. The prosecution witnesses are a English teacher (Mary-Louise Parker) who considers the poem in question obscene and a college professor (Jeff Daniels) who has a very definite idea of ??what is and what is not good literature.
