Storyline

It is twenty years in the future, and the planet has been devastated by vicious fire-breathing dragons. The last vestiges of humanity now struggle for survival at remote outposts. In a ruined castle in the English countryside, Quinn is desperately trying to hold together a band of frightened, restless survivors. As a boy, Quinn watched his mother die protecting him from one of the beasts, and is still haunted by the memory. One day, a group of American rogues shows up, led by a brash, tough-guy named Van Zam. He claims to have discovered a way to kill the dragons once and for all, and enlists Quinn's help

Nel 2002 il dodicenne Quinn Abercromby aiuta la madre, che dirige dei lavori di escavazione nel sottosuolo di Londra, e si ritrova a scoprire, in un cunicolo laterale, una grotta misteriosa in cui dorme una bestia primordiale misteriosa. Tenta di andare ad avvisare la madre ma la bestia si risveglia: la creatura è un drago, che subito dimostra la propria ferocia sputando fuoco, distruggendo e uccidendo tutti coloro che si trovavano lì tranne Quinn.

Nel 2020 la situazione è del tutto insostenibile, il clima terrestre è denso di smog a causa dei draghi e la terra è teatro di devastazione e desolazione, i draghi hanno ridotto in cenere gran parte della civiltà e delle terre emerse, nulla hanno potuto gli umani contro di loro nemmeno attraverso l'uso di armi atomiche. I draghi sono diventati la specie dominante del pianeta e hanno sterminato ogni specie animale (anche se uno dei sopravvissuti alla fortezza di Quinn ha con sé un falco) e gran parte delle specie vegetali..............
