Till Death us do Part was a true masterpiece. My 5th favourite sitcom of all time. This was not as good as Till Death us do Part (could it ever have been), but it ranks number 21 in my list of favourite sitcoms. It is a classic sitcom, what more could you expect from the great Johnny Speight, who was in my opinion, the greatest comedy scriptwriter around.



In the first series Dandy Nichols appears with Alf, she is in a wheel chair. Alf drinks in the pub with his best friend Arthur and neighbours Fred Johnson and his wife. Fred doesn't really like Alf and Fred gets really wound up. When annoyed he bangs his head on the wall. The home help man is Winstone. Winstone was one of the best characters in it. Not only is he black, he's gay. But Alf gets to like him. When the great Dandy Nichols died in February 1986 (after completing the first series), you'd think Alf had no more female's to shout at. Wrong. Mrs Hollingbery, who lived in the flat upstairs, found herself shouted at by Mr Garnett.



Alf seemed a little bit more human in this than he did in Till Death us do Part, he was still a monster wonderfully acted by Warren Mitchell. The character I really liked in it was the Indian Shop Keeper played by the great Renu Setna (He appeared in about half a dozen episodes of It ain't Half Hot Mum, appeared in an episode of Open All Hours and in the Only Fools and Horses episode Cash and Curry, he played Mr Ram). Arthur was good. In one episode Alf hasn't got anywhere to go for Sunday Lunch: ARTHUR: You should come to us ALF: Oh, i'd love to ARTHUR: Great. (Pause, Alf looks happy) I'll arrange that one week. Spike Milligan appeared in the third episode of the third series as Fancy Fred. He is married to Fanny Carby in it, who appeared in Milligans Q5. Winstone was probably my favourite character in it
