Description
Of all Hurriganes members, Janne Louhivuori, who played guitar on "Fortissimo" (1981) and "Rockin' Hurriganes" (1982) has had the least benefit of his membership in one of the most popular Finnish rock'n'roll bands. He hasn't acquired a very prominent position in the music scene, but he's worked steadily as solo artist, producer and songwriter.
His first solo album was "Midnight Pink". Last year I listened to this on cassette. The tape was old and very worn, but despite the bad sound I could hear what an amazing rock'n'roll record it was. I wanted to find a good vinyl copy, and was overjoyed when I found one. Louhivuori himself calls this "a buddy record that mostly has my own songs on it and a couple of covers". Yes, it's true that the multitude of guest vocalists - Kassu Halonen, Dave Lindholm, Edu Kettunen (Broadcast) and Riki Sorsa - dominate this LP, but Louhivuori himself displays a lot of versatility with 9 tunes that differ quite a lot from each other. I won't make any further introductions, because I want to let "Midnight Pink" surprise you! Download and be amazed! PS. Louhivuori followed this up with "Suomenlahti soi" (1983), but everyone seems to agree that it's lousy - including the artist himself. Midnight Pink (1982): 1. Do-Wah-Diddy-Diddy 2. Down and Out in N.Y.C. 3. Darling Zanee 4. Tears of a Go-Go 5. Staggering 6. Midnight Pink 7. Lonely Boys 8. Low-High-Mount 9.
