The vast majority of the film, which tells the story of Roselyne (Isabelle Pasco) and Thierry (Gerard Sandoz), a young lion-taming duo, is shot in an uncharacteristically flat, naturalistic style which matches the small-time beginnings of the protagonists. Once the couple are hired by a high-tech German circus, Beineix begins to frame his shots in a more stylized fashion, but full cinematic spectacle is saved until the finale of their first major show (...). Beineix stated that the film is a satire on the film industry, and it is interesting to notice the defense of le look which emerges (...)
