Julian Casablancas announces new album with the Voidz.. Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas has announced an upcoming album with his other outfit, The Voidz. (Los Angeles Times) Fans of the Strokes have had reason to get excited this summer. Lead singer Julian Casablancas recently led the often-incompatible collective’s first two shows in New York state since late 2011, and the group is set to take on LA’s FYF Fest in August. Although some may have been hoping these shows would result in new Strokes material, Casablancas has announced an upcoming album with his other outfit, The Voidz. Titled “Tyranny,” the album will be a follow-up to Casablancas’ 2009 solo debut, “Phrasez for the Young.” It will be released Sept. 23 on Casablancas’ label, Cult Records. He bundled up details on the label's website, including upcoming shows with The Voidz, an album teaser, and the record’s presale price, $3.87. “I feel there’s still a lot of in between area in music that hasn’t been explored,” Casablancas said in a Cult Records video. He further noted the the LP as potentially a “protest record.” The band (officially known as Julian Casablancas + The Voidz) has already showcased itself on the South American circuit, having played festival dates in Argentina, Brazil, and Chile. Although Casablancas seems to be primarily focused on The Voidz, Strokes fans shouldn’t fret. He performed with both bands on different days of the New York’s Governor’s Ball Music Festival, and is scheduled to do the same at FYF Fest. He's set to return to Los Angeles alongside The Voidz again in November at the Wiltern Theatre. Related Torrents
